In 2025, COP 30 will take place in the heart of the Brazilian Amazon, in Belém, Pará. As the host of one of the most important multilateral events of the year, Brazil holds a prominent role in the global debate and is uniquely positioned to lead the agenda on land use change and sustainable agriculture. Promoting a just and sustainable transition of agri-food systems is crucial to tackling climate change — not only for mitigation, but also for preserving biodiversity and addressing social inequalities. In this context, the policy brief outlines the historical trajectory of how agri-food systems have been addressed in international governance forums and provides concrete recommendations for positioning the agri-food transition at the center of the climate agenda.
